Once upon a time in the deep, dark depths of New York, two guys met while working at Citibank. They quickly realized that they had a great sarcastic awareness of all the stupid things around them and a willingness to share it with others, and henceforth Pookai Radio was born.The live broadcasts of Pookai Radio started back in 2005 as a hobby and broadcasted online as a weekly show. The great chemistry of Pookai Radio’s talk show leads quickly gained a cult following. Co-hosts Randy and Damian planned out the comedic contents that would cover a wide range of humorous, taboo and raunchy topics. After a couple shows the staff of Pookai grew to include guest hosts who reported on various current events, entertainment and happenings around New York.
The guys were approached by Candy, Mia and Eve, the gals from Eastbound FX. The hosts immediately seized the opportunity to make a triumphant return and had their official pilot show on Thursday the 17th of April 2008. The show still consists of its absolutely funny humor, but also includes insights on events and happenings in Asian and Asian American Media.
The literal translation of “Pookai” in Chinese means “fall down and die”. The context Pookai is used for Pookai Radio is for its listeners to fall down and die Laughing!
Randy
The dominating Asian perspective on the show, Randy is better known amongst female Pookai fans as “the cute one”. Bringing his previous broadcast experience to the show, Randy was the originator and innovator of Pookai Radio. He brought the show on air after a bad experience with infidelity, and had intended to use the airwaves to vent his frustration with the situation. What he got instead was racially mixed calamity of epic proportions. He plays the straight man on the show, because everyone knows Asia is the most responsible of all continents.
Damian
Serving under Randy at Citigroup, Damian quickly became known as “the loose cannon of network security”. Damian joined Pookai Radio because he felt he would attract potential submissive mates by hanging out with an Asian guy. He soon learned the cold hard truth, that standing next to a better looking guy in a bar is not the ideal way to attract females. He brings a variety of wild stories to the show, and listeners find them hilarious. For the staff, its discomforting… Because they know he isn’t lying.
Jose
Into every life, a little metal must fall. While the rest of the Pookai team goes on and on about their raver music and eurobeat, Jose brings the grim black metal from the cold creepy icy nordic mountains. And he’s Puerto Rican! Damian and Randy rely on Jose for explosive views on current events, issues, and just a dash of shock value for good measure.
Syns
What good is a radio show if it doesn’t drive sideways? From coast to coast, Syns the Spyda is in demand, both under the hood and over the airwaves. Pookai Radio’s got him, and he brings to the show something no one else can: JDM connections and mechanical know how. But more importantly, Syns has seen the seedy underbelly of the world, from Florida to New York, and he’s lived to tell the tale, thanks to a street wise attitude and a certain irresistible jerk chicken recipe. (We aren’t kidding.)
